Lift Off to Literacy is an early intervention programme aimed at raising literacy levels and gives lots of opportunities for children to read books at their own level of competency and gradually lift the complexity of what they can do in both reading and writing.It is run in Senior Infants, First Class and Second Class.
The children are grouped at the start of the year. The starting point is tailored to the needs of your child. Each group takes turns to participate in the following stations: New Book, Phonics/ Word Study, Writing and Familiar Book. Each station lasts 10 minutes and then the children move to the next station.
At home, parents are encouraged to listen to their child reading each evening. Literacy Lift Off has proven to be a very successful programme where the children learn and progress quickly in an enjoyable and hands on environment. They will read 80-100 books as they progress. Your child will read at an appropriate level of fluency and comprehension for them.
